Using macports to install py25-pil is installing just a ton of unrelated stuff

It is been going with an age and also points I have actually seen scroll past include such treasures as libX11, ncurses and also my individual fave: perl5!

Is this regular?

Macports mounts in a different area, I assume/ decide, so you do not need to bother with contaminating your system.

python25 is an instead cooking area - sink construct.

It relies on tk, which relies on Xft2 that is where some X11 things originates from.

There is a script available to show all dependences entailed.

You can by hand modify the portfile to remove the dependence on tk, which is the major wrongdoer.

sudo port edit python25

(Look for port:tk in the depends_lib area.)

I did this for some time to maintain MacPorts variation of Getmail, yet ultimately, I simply started to by hand install Getmail rather.

I enjoy both MacPorts and also Fink, yet I despise just how fast they are to drag in entire new Python, Perl or Ruby installments. As a comparison, you could look into Rudix. It is a much thinner setting, though it does not sustain as several plans as MacPorts or Fink.
