Can you read a USB flash drive from an Android phone?

I have a Samsung Galaxy S (i9000) with Android 2.1.

I am asking yourself if it can read a USB flash drive. It will certainly be actually valuable to replicate documents throughout USB drives so you do not need to lug laptop computers about.

I assume if there is a cable/converter to plugin a USB right into the phone and also there is an application to read the linked USB drive, I do not see why it can not be done.

The trouble is do the wire and also application exist?

The Samsung Galaxy S2 formally sustains USB OTG. It appears it has an unique adapter.

Yes and also Kinda.

You're speaking about USB On the Go (OTG) and also Android can it yet it's not formally sustained. I could not locate any kind of applications in the application market that manage it yet below are a couple individuals that obtained it functioning:

http://sven.killig.de/android/N1/2.2/usb_host/ (this individual primarily transformed his Nexus One right into an entire job terminal)

That 2nd tutorial informs you to hack a wire yet you can in fact acquire an OTG wire so this isn't essential.

Additionally, I've seen some phones assert they are mosting likely to bring out USB OTG a while earlier yet I do not remember anything ever before appearing.
