sudo apt-get install avahi-daemon
machinename.local
functions many thanks to an additional execution of zeroconf (of which Avahi is additionally) called Bonjour, developed (IIRC) by Apple. It is mounted by default. I do not recognize why Avahi isn't additionally yet offered the complication it creates individuals, it possibly aught to be.
