How can I see the system standing throughout boot?

I would love to check the messages created when I boot my Mac, comparable to what you on a *nix box. Exists key - combination to press/hold that will allow me do this?

If you intend to see the boot messages after the boot took place, visit and also run sudo dmesg in Terminal.app.

You need to push cmd+v upon start-up to see the boot result. Press this right after the chime .

If you intend to make that irreversible, you need to possibly do something along the lines of:

sudo nvram boot-args="-v"

To undo the above:

sudo nvram boot-args=

in the Terminal. (/ Applications/Utilities/Terminal. application)

note : I have not examined the above commands, yet I'm certain a google question will certainly aid you there if you intend to make it irreversible.
