Resolving pseudo domain name to private IP

Assume I have a VM working on OSX with exclusive IP 10.0.0 .1 which can be accessed from the host equipment.

I was asking yourself just how can I map a pseudo domain, *.app.dev, to the exclusive IP on my host equipment to make sure that on my host equipment I can settle the domain *.app.dev to 10.0.0 .1.

The objective of this arrangement is to have digital setting for growth and also not contaminate my host equipment with unneeded plans and also solutions.

modify: I understand that /etc/hosts can complete non wildcard domain, I need to have been extra clear and also state wildcard domain.
